Downsizing help for a smaller home

Before a move into a smaller place, someone has to decide what goes. We help with that choice and deal with the leftovers on the same move.

Measure the new place first

Start with the new rooms, not the old house. If you have the layout or room sizes, bring them to the walkthrough. We help you work out which furniture fits the new room, and then you pick the pieces you'd least like to lose. Letting go of a sofa is easier once you can see there's no wall for it. Settle the big furniture before packing starts.

Keep, consign, donate or toss

Everything that isn't coming has somewhere to go, and we take it there on moving day. We'll drop furniture at the consignment shop you pick or deliver donations for you. Items nobody wants go to disposal, which carries a separate fee. We aren't a junk removal company, so this comes with a move rather than on its own. See donation and disposal for the details.

When the whole family is deciding

Downsizing usually involves a parent, a few grown children and a house full of history. Agree on the family pieces early, before boxes go up, so nobody learns on moving day that the china cabinet went to consignment. A short written list of who gets what helps our crew too. Anything set aside for a relative can be labeled and kept out of the load.

Packing what you keep

Once the choices are made, our crew can pack the rest and unpack it at the new home. Plenty of our customers hand us every box, and you can do the same. If the move is into assisted living or a senior community, our senior moves page explains the setup we do on the first day. Call (239) 415-6683 and Justin or Patrick will come walk the house.

For local details that affect this kind of move, see our moving notes for Bonita Springs, Whiskey Creek, Pelican Bay, and Venice.

04. Settling In

We unpack if it is part of your estimate, and on senior moves the crew makes the bed before leaving.

Questions about downsizing

Do you buy or sell furniture?

No. We take pieces to a consignment shop you choose, and the shop handles any sale.

Is downsizing help only for seniors?

No. Anyone moving into less space can use it. A lot of this work is with older customers moving into senior communities.

Will you haul things away without a move?

Usually not. We're a moving company, so donation and disposal runs are done as part of moving your household.
